Are Dell computer products displaying more & more elements of beauty and fashion? In my opinion–yes. I have been very familiar with their computer products for about 15 years, and one thing I have noticed in the last couple of years is a definite shift in their product designs. In my opinion, in what we are seeing come to market, the physical designs, colors and textures now incorporate more elements of beauty & fashion.
One of the latest products out of the starting gate is the Dell Studio 19. This product went live last week, and now I can show you some behind the scenes images from the lifestyle shoot from early March. :) Regarding image quality, please understand these snapshots were taken with my iPhone and not my Canon 5D ;)
The property we were at, for the shoot, was an absolutely gorgeous private residence in south Austin, with huge windows that let in lots & lots of light.
When we arrived and completed the round of introductions with the owner, we then met Luda, the Pug. Luda was to be our escort and companion for the entire day. I couldn’t stop thinking of Men In Black the entire time we were there. :)
This was a 2 day shoot with Bryan, who is the senior photographer from the Dell Studio here in Austin, and a crew including creative directors, online designers, set designers and 3D animators.
There were three set ups for the shoot, with two downstairs in the kitchen and two upstairs. First–the kitchen . . .
As is standard practice, Bryan was shooting with the Canon 1DS Mark II (tethered to his Dell Precision notebook) and shot into Phase One‘s Capture One Pro. This affords him, and the rest of the creative crew, the opportunity to preview the shots as they were taken, and make changes on the fly.
Images from this set of shots made it into the Studio 19 promo video that can be seen on the Dell website.
All the time we were shooting downstairs, Luda was reviewing the situation from halfway up the stairs.
Then it was on to set up #2–shooting different color Studio 19 products with different arrangements and accessories.
Here is the first glimpse of Bryan reviewing the shots–he had to do this under the hood to eliminate external glare from all the windows.
Here we can see one of the bounce cards used to create a reflection on the screen of the product.
It all proved too exciting for wee Luda :)
Only 4 more to shoot, Luda . . .
The best spot for Luda to take a rest proved to be right on top of a Tenba bag full of our Chimera & Broncolor softboxes.
Somewhere in the middle of the day, Don, from Magnetic Dreams Animation Studio, and Lynsey went off and came back with the best handmade chocolates ever. One of the boxes was from Breed & Co from Austin TX, and these were incredible treats that were well received :)
With touches from the set designer and other members of the creative team, the scene was created for each of the products we were shooting.
Of course, one could not go 10 mins without running into Luda.
Finally, when the shoot was over, Luda could rest–it had been a tough two days. :)
