Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week Tadashi Shoji Spring Summer 2011
Born in Sendai Japan, Tadashi moved to Los Angeles to attend college and in 1982 founded the label Tadashi Soji.
The format of the Tadashi Shoji show was something I had never seen in person before. Referred to by some as a display, the models are static and the audience walks around to view the designs from a much closer distance than usual.
We also saw Jojo, the recording artist with Universal Records, made an appearance to view the collection.

Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week 2010 Richie Rich Spring Summer 2011
So far, Richie Rich has proved to be the most colorful fashion designer whose creations we have photographed in Fashion Week 2010.
Not just in relation to his color choices for his latest collection on display in front of an eager audience here in NY, but he definitely delivered the most theatrical runway show, reflecting his intent to inject fun into his designs and his shows.
Starting out with a ballet dancers, who were followed by a DJ and a violinist, the show took off and revealed 2 collections and the first model to walk for Richie was Ice T’s wife CoCo. Right at the end of the second collection, Ellen Degeneres walked the runway and struck some fierce poses trumping Zoolander’s “Blue Steel” signature pose.

One thing that is striking is the degree of creativity that designers have season after season. Even if one is not familiar with every designer, it is still possible to recognize elegance and beauty.
Many of the designers I am shooting on the runway during fashion week – including Richard Chai – are new to me, and I have to admit to being so very grateful to be able to be a part of this event and to capture their designs.

Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week Christian Siriano Spring Summer 2011
Day one from the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week 2010 was complete with a flurry of photographers, tv crews, models, designers, celebrities and lovers of fashion.
Shooting this event was a first for both me and my assistant Melissa Weston. Fellow photographers and videographers were instrumental in helping us navigate the media frenzy.
In particular, Katy Winn and Diane Cohen (both veteran shooters of Fashion Week), were extremely helpful and encouraging to both of us on our first day. Much thanks to you both, and to the rest of the community for the assistance!

Machete Austin Red Carpet Premiere at Paramount Theater with Robert Rodriguez, Michele Rodriguez and Danny Trejo
Thursday the 2nd of September, while shooting for popularhispanics.com I got to photograph the fashion of the stars on the Red Carpet at the Austin Premiere for Machete from Robert Rodriguez.
Stars from the movie to walk the red carpet outside the Paramount Theater included Robert Rodriguez, Danny Trejo, Michele Rodriguez, Cheryl Chin, Daryl Sabara, Elise Avellan, Electra Avellan, Greg Ingram, Jeff Fahey, Ken Leung, Mayra Leal and Nina Leon.

Gerry Hanan interview with GSD&M for Fashion Week ‘Profiles in Creativity’ series now live on their YouTube channel
Yesterday on Friday the 13th, (definitely not unlucky for me :) the video of my interview that was done with GSD&M for their Profiles in Creativity series launched.
It was the final interview conducted with 5 creative professionals who are participating in Fashion week. Saturday the 14th marks the huge kick off event at the GSD&M Idea City offices here in Austin Texas.

I just completed a video interview with GSD&M, the largest ad agency in Austin Texas. GSD&M Idea City is an advertising agency that has helped grow some of the world’s most successful brands. As part of GSD&M’s tradition of “supporting the creative culture” this web series highlights the careers of 5 artists and their connection with creativity in Austin, and was created to build buzz about Launch787’s Austin Fashion Week. The creative professionals selected for this series were makeup artist Maris Malone Caldron, Ilios Lighting owner Brian Azar, sound engineer Richard Belisle and fashion photographer Gerry Hanan.
Duff Stewart, president and CEO of GSD&M Idea City said “We are proud to be part of this year’s Fashion Week events and to recognize these individuals for their impact on Austin as a city of ideas.”

Today, August 9th saw the launch of the first interview with Currie Bucher, Touch of Sass boutique owner. Over the remainder of this week, one new video will be released & the interview with me will go live on GSD&M’s Youtube channel on Friday the 13th.
I was interviewed in my home studio and after the interview was over I insisted on a group shot :)
